Why is it easy to find a girlfriend in Thailand, but finding a wife is as hard as climbing to the sky?

Nowadays, more and more people are traveling to Thailand, especially our male compatriots. Many choose Thailand as their first overseas destination after hearing from various media that you can “rent a wife” in Thailand and that it’s very cheap. As an old hand who has been around Thailand for more than ten years and has dealt with a large number of Thai girls, although I myself am not looking for a wife here, the nature of my work has allowed me to meet many, many Thai women. So I have quite a few real cases and a relatively deep understanding of Thai girls’ requirements and personalities.
Perhaps what I’m about to say will be of some help to those of you who are thinking of coming to Thailand to find a girlfriend, or even a Thai wife, so that you don’t fall into traps, waste time and energy, and end up losing both the person and the money.
1. First, you must be able to solve your own emotional problems — at the very least, you need to be able to tell whether a woman truly loves you
Nowadays, some self-proclaimed bachelors come to Southeast Asia looking for a wife, usually choosing countries like Thailand, Laos, or Vietnam. Recently I’ve also seen some videos about finding wives in Southeast Asia. I’m not sure whether they are genuinely looking or just using the “finding a wife” theme to create content. But generally speaking, none of them get to the point. Without a relatively reliable channel or a relatively correct way to meet Southeast Asian girls, you are almost guaranteed to get rejected. It’s also very common to see people who treat short-term girls as wives, only to be kicked out of the house later.

I’ve also seen some brothers in Thailand who, after failing to find a suitable one, conclude that Thai girls have high requirements and ask for a lot of money, then move on to Laos. How should I put it? For some brothers, the problem lies with themselves — they keep running away instead of solving the root issue. They try to take advantage of geographical differences because, compared with their home country, their wallet looks bigger in Southeast Asia, which makes them feel more confident. But this kind of confidence that comes purely from having more money will eventually backfire.
There are also people who go abroad thinking Thai girls don’t ask for bride price (dowry). After arriving in Thailand, they discover that some do. But according to my logic, you shouldn’t give bride price at all. A woman who truly likes you — no matter which country she’s from — will never ask for bride price. She might even argue with her family if the mother-in-law demands too much. But when I say this, many people can’t accept it. These people just keep switching countries. Even if they find a girl from a country where the bride price is very low, it still won’t solve their future emotional problems or resource problems.
2. The channel through which you meet girls is extremely important
Where should you look? I can say that more than 95% of people who come to Thailand wanting to find a wife are meeting Thai girls through the wrong channels. Recently I’ve seen some videos by guys in Thailand claiming to be looking for wives — they’re filming in places like the Walking Street in Pattaya or other entertainment areas and bar streets. Those places are fine for creating content and attracting traffic. But if you truly want to find a wife, I can tell you this: you could search there for three years and still not find one. Even if you do find someone, the probability is high that she’s just treating you as a cash cow, taking everything she can get from you, and then kicking you out of Thailand. Finding a wife and finding a Thai girlfriend for fun are two completely different things.
The places you should go are relatively local areas — Chiang Mai in the north, Udon Thani in the northeast, Khon Kaen, and some university towns. If you are serious about finding someone, these places are much more reliable.

3. The threshold for approaching local girls
Meeting local girls is not that simple either. You need to meet the following conditions. If you can do these, it will be much easier.
First is language. The vast majority of guys have poor language skills, especially Thai. If you want to approach local girls, you must be able to speak Thai. Language is a huge problem. No matter which country you go to — Thailand, Laos, or anywhere else — you need to learn the local language. At the very least, it gives people the feeling that you want to develop a life in Thailand.
Second is time. Staying in Thailand long-term is a difficult process. It’s best to prepare yourself for at least a year or so. Otherwise, you’ve only known the girl for a couple of days, haven’t even started dating properly, and already have to pack up and go home. Even foreign girls are unlikely to feel that there’s any future with you. Many girls are still quite traditional. After deeper contact, you’ll discover that girls met in different places and situations can be completely different — two extremes. Some are passionate and outgoing, while others are extremely traditional, even insisting on turning off all the lights when sleeping with their boyfriend.
Final summary
Finding a short-term girlfriend in Thailand is easy. Finding a wife is extremely difficult. So for those of you who truly want to find someone you can live with, take care of each other, and rely on each other, don’t waste your time in so-called entertainment venues or places that are easy to access. Spend more time in local areas. This way, you’ll have a better chance of finding a relatively simple and sincere girl. Through the accumulation of time, understand the local situation, build more resources, meet more girls, and then do the screening — that is the proper way. Let the girls become the ones chasing after you!
