1. Where Is the Red-Light Area in Phuket?

When people think of Thailand’s red-light districts, Bangkok and Pattaya usually come to mind first. Pattaya is even more famous for its sex industry than Bangkok in many ways, since Bangkok is a major international city and the royal capital. Phuket, on the other hand, is mainly associated with beaches and islands. The nightlife most people picture is usually big clubs or events like EDC.

That doesn’t mean Phuket has no adult entertainment scene — it’s just much smaller in scale and number of workers compared with Bangkok or Pattaya. The main concentration is around Patong Beach, especially along and near Bangla Road (also called Bangla Walking Street). The area is relatively compact. Many venues are beer bars, and go-go bars are clustered tightly together. Prices, however, are not cheap. A large portion of Western and Australian visitors are students or retirees, so an LT of 10,000+ baht can feel expensive to them. As a result, many people simply stay in the bars drinking and having a good time.

The scene is less transparent than in Bangkok or Pattaya. If it’s your first time and you don’t understand terms like Lady Drink, Bar Fine, ST, and LT, it’s easy to miscalculate your budget. Note that “Phuket red-light area” is just a tourist nickname for the concentration of adult nightlife — not every venue here offers adult services.
